Making a Difference November 12, 2015

Read Luke 17:11-19

Philippians 3:14      I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:28     And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 11:29     for God's gifts and his call are irrevocable.

1 Corinthians 9:24     Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Philippians 3:3     For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh--

Colossians 2:18     Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.

2 Timothy 1:9     He has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,

At breakfast, Bill, an old friend of mine, poured out his frustrations. He believed that he wasn’t making a difference in his ministry working with men at the jail in his town. The men would make great progress but then abandon it all when they were released. As a result, Bill was discouraged and ready to give up. Then he started talking about a couple of men who had made changes when they got out and were sticking to them. I was able to encourage Bill that he had made a difference for those men, and that was worth it.

Sometimes it’s easy for us to think we haven’t made a difference in sharing our faith. Too often we feel that what we do doesn’t matter. But the truth comes from Jesus. He said that whatever we do for anyone in need matters to him. Encouraging someone can significantly change that person’s future. And it can significantly change the future of whomever that person influences.
