The Purpose Driven Life: Embracing Truth – May 9, 2015

Acts 20:32     "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

Matthew 4:4    Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Growth and maturity come about when we replace fantasy, fiction, fables and our self-will with truth. The Holy Spirit uses the word to transform us but in order to become Christ-like we must embrace and live the word.

John 17:17     Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

2 Timothy 3:17     so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God’s word is perfect and unchanging. Without the word we would not be alive

Hebrews 4:12     For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

1 Peter 1:23     For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

Do not be deceived by the world, there is no such thing as a self-made man. The word of God is needed to fulfill your purpose.

Job 23:12     I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

1 Peter 2:2     Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

In order to be healthy, feeding on the “bread of life” (the word) must be a priority

Deuteronomy 8:3     He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

John 8:31-32     So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."…

Day to day living should include 3 things:

1)      Accepting the authority of Scripture
2)      Apply the word’s truth
a)      Receiving it
b)     Reading it
c)      Researching it
d)     Remembering it
e)      Reflecting on it

3)      Living the word
