Galatians 1:10 (ESV)
10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I
trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be
a servant of Christ.
1 Thessalonians 2:4 - But as we were allowed of God to
be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but
God, which trieth our hearts.
A codependent
relationship pattern is that God takes second place to people we place in high
esteem or on the throne where God should be. Codependents rely on each other
for deep seeded emotional needs and even some physical needs rather than investing
in self care. The codependent person also lacks faith and trust in God to care
for their needs and tends to manipulate others to get what they want.
Codependent people are typically attracted to one another in a predatory way (hurt
people hurt people) and will keep each other stuck in a dysfunctional blind
spot by stroking each others wounded egos. This way, they both can
"normal", despite the chaos their choices are creating. Real talk
people who avoid telling the truth in love have trouble recognizing the things
they use to replace God or a need for repentance.
