All I can say is wow!!! How can two verses be so intimate
full of hope and promise?
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary - 10:22-30 All who have anything to say to
Christ, may find him in the temple. Christ would make us to believe; we make
ourselves doubt. The Jews understood his meaning, but could not form his words
into a full charge against him. He described the gracious disposition and happy
state of his sheep; they heard and believed his word, followed him as his
faithful disciples, and none of them should perish; for the Son and the Father
were one. Thus he was able to defend his sheep against all their enemies, which
proves that he claimed Divine power and perfection equally with the Father.
My sheep hear my voice, He knows them; imagine being a shepherd
and knowing each sheep by name. Imagine the sight of the flock following a verbal command.
The voice of Christ is in His Gospel, having both an
external and internal response. He calls to the heart and we respond by
physically following. He calls us by name and He promises security.
Now, as long as your imagination has been activated just
imagine the shepherd knowing the name of each sheep. Imagine a random number of
sheep straying into harm's way on a regular basis; this shepherd is so good
that he knows which sheep are going to stray, when they are going to stray and
what they are going to do....a point which leads me the 23rd Psalm "thy
rod and thy staff they comfort me"....just what do I mean? The rod and the
staff are tools of correction so the
sheep don't continue to stray (abuse grace)
Who or what are you allowing to call you? Does that thing have your heart to the point
where you override your knowledge of God? If so you can expect of life of
strife and conflict....because God promises that you cannot be taken from Him.
