We have coined the phrase “acting brand new” which has
negative connotations…it means you’re either playing dumb or you really don’t
know anything. It’s funny how when you use the term in a spiritual context it
means something positive. It means that you’ve forgotten your selfish and your self-serving
ways and you begin to look to and trust God…
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary: 5:16-21 The
renewed man acts upon new principles, by new rules, with new ends, and in new
company. The believer is created anew; his heart is not merely set right, but a
new heart is given him. He is the workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus
unto good works. Though the same as a man, he is changed in his character and
conduct. These words must and do mean more than an outward reformation. The man
who formerly saw no beauty in the Savior that he should desire him, now loves
him above all things
Is your change thorough or is it a surface sweep to look
good? What is your character and conduct announcing? Are you a dressed up mess trying to fake it
until you make it? From me to you – God knows…he
knows your heart, he knows your thoughts, He knows your moves before you make
them….you can’t hide or lie to Him
