Matthew Chapter 9:36-38 36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly [is] plenteous, but the laborers [are] few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.

The Hebrew and Greek words translated “compassion” in the
Bible mean “to have mercy, to feel sympathy and to have pity.” We know that,
according to the Bible, God is “a compassionate and gracious God, slow to
anger, abounding in love and faithfulness” (Psalm 86:15). Like all of God’s
attributes, His compassion is infinite and eternal. His compassions never fail;
they are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
