Romans 8:15-16 (NIV)
15 The Spirit you received does not make you
slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought
about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The
Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Ab-ba. Listen to a baby and you will hear these basic early
sounds. Incredibly, Jesus showed us, and the Spirit enables us, to speak to God
with these syllables of familiarity, trust, vulnerability, dependency, and
intimacy. The Spirit is our guarantee that we don't have to be afraid of God,
but that we can approach him as our loving and tender Father who always listens
to our hearts and seeks to bless our lives.
Thought for today: How do I approach God?
