Which Way, Lord? December 12, 2015

Read Psalm 119:1-8

Proverbs 3:5-6      Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.…

Psalm 37:3     Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

Psalm 37:5     Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:

Proverbs 22:19    So that your trust may be in the LORD, I teach you today, even you.

Proverbs 23:4     Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness.

Proverbs 28:26     Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

Jeremiah 9:23     This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches,

I drive customers home or to work when they leave their vehicles for service or repair at our dealership. I never know whether I might be driving to family neighborhoods, commercial districts, or industrial zones. Some areas have straight roads and some are winding. All have side streets leading from the main path.

This situation reminds me of the spiritual roads we travel. Sometimes as we cruise through life, making our daily decisions is easy and unambiguous. At other times life is full of twists and turns, and the road ahead looks ominous. Many times we take the side street that appears to be promising only to discover that looks can, indeed, be deceiving — and we end up where we have no business being. At other times we avoid the path that we may perceive as menacing or difficult to maneuver and miss the rewards that were waiting for us there.

God wants to direct our course in life as we strive to follow the true path of righteousness. To that end, God gives us discernment through our prayers and reading the Bible. When we know the Lord, making those difficult decisions becomes easier.
