The Purpose Driven Life: Growing Up – May 8, 2015

Ephesians 4:13 – 15     …until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,…

1 Corinthians 14:20     Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.

Discipleship is the maturation process of a believer; the way to become Christ-like. It starts with a decision. Once you make the decision and begin to get serious about it you begin to act and think differently and you can be certain that the Holy Spirit will provide support in the transformation.

Matthew 9:9     As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

Philippians 2:12-13     So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.…

Your “work out” is your responsibility and the results belong to God….May I suggest “Jacob’s Gym” you know the spot, where you wrestle with things until they bless you. The very first workout involves changing the way you think because you thinking impacts the way you feel and the way you act.

Proverbs 4:22-24     …For they are life to those who find them And health to all their body. Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth And put devious speech far from you.…

Romans 12:1-2     Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.…

1 Corinthian 13: 10 -12     …but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.…
