The Purpose Driven Life: Communing With Community May 5, 2015

Hebrews 10:25     not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Acts 2:42-43     They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.…

Being part of a community requires a commitment. Only the Holy Spirit can develop and solidify an honest fellowship between believers, but He tends to it by utilizing the choices and commitments we make.

The New Testament is put together in such a way that it provides detailed instructions on how to build community and share:

1 Timothy 3:14-15     I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.…

Community takes honesty
Ephesians 4: 14-15     …As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

1 Corinthians 11:3     But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

Proverbs 28:23     In the end, people appreciate honest criticism far more than flattery.

Community takes humility
1 Peter 5:5     In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."

James 4:6     But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."

Romans 12:16     Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Community takes courtesy
Romans 15:2     Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.

1 Corinthians 10:33     even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.

Ephesians 4:12     to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up

Community takes frequency
Acts 2:46     Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,

Hebrews 10:25     not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
