Love - February 14, 2015

1 Corinthians 13  (NIV)

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Happy Valentine's Day  - I am currently flying solo, not crazy about the situation but it is what it is; the blessing in my situation is that I am living and loving the word of God. Since it is Valentine's Day I wanted to look at the thing we call love as opposed to what God says love is

Proverbs 18:22   “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the Lord.”

If you’re like me, then you are a person who knows that God has ordained a helpmate and a partner for you;  and  every time you delve into a  Bible verse, you get a new revelation out of it, no matter how many times you read it.  I discovered the French version of this verse and embraced it because it really spoke to how I viewed the verse ; it says that whoever finds a wife, finds HAPPINESS;  As an added bonus, you gain favor from the Lord. Hey! that's just like gravy on a rich meal.

Guess what, while letting that verse wash over me I was also doing a bit of  soul-searching, the verse completely shattered my belief that I could remain who I was; repeating behaviors and being static in my ways....stuck in "love me as who I am"

I started asking myself  what should my behavior be like in a Godly relationship.  I had to be radically transformed in my thoughts and  behavior, which is not easy without the help of the Holy Spirit.   At times I felt like I was destroying the very core of my being and that I wasn't going to make it.  In task  of discovering what is my role as a Godly partner  in a relationship, I've found one thing to be extremely essential and an absolute requirement:  LOVE YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER.

Ephesians 5:25  ” Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her ”

Brokenness - February 13, 2015

Psalms 147:3     He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

Isaiah 61:1     The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners;

John 12:24 ESV      Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

Matthew 5:2-12 ESV      And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. ...

We live in a disposable society, broken things are considered to be trash or worthless, but God takes what broken and remakes it into something better, something that He can use for His glory. Broken things and broken people are the result of sin. Yet God sent his Son, who was without sin, to be broken so that we might be healed.

Self-doubt - February 12. 2015

2 Timothy 1:7    For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV      For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Matthew 14:31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

We have all been in a place in life  where we have focused our attentions on accomplishing a very specific goal; we've invested  hours of time and hard work into reaching a goal, finishing a project, studying for an exam… only to find that as we get closer to reaching that goal we begin to question ourselves.

We start to question : am I good enough, smart enough, will people listen to or like me…
Self-doubt creeps into the back of our minds and the doubt and fear begins to consume us. We start to lose confidence in our abilities to reach the stated goal.

Self doubt is the ghost of our past experiences, a faith crisis...remember what I always say about the enemy...he uses us to destroy us.

No weapon formed against you shall prosper!!!!

Dealing With Disappointment - February 11, 2015

Romans 8:28 ESV     And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Isaiah 40:28-31 ESV     Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Matthew 6:24-34 ESV     “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, ...

Man oh man!!! How many times in your life have you been going on about your business and your plans achieving goals when WHAM!!! all of a sudden the rug is pulled out from under you?

Disappointment is a vicious robber and debilitating enemy; sneaking up behind you and clubbing you into submission. It can disturb you so emotionally that you will rendered ineffective in your thought and deed. As a result, you isolate yourself from the creative forces that are ready to help you. Disappointment can strike at almost any time, in any situation so it’s important that you learn to roll with the punches.

First , don’t let the situation disappointment steal your joy, destroy your hope or shake your knowledge of the goodness of God. “Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward” (Hebrews 10:35). When disappointment strikes, it is the time, more than ever to run to and hold tightly to your faith. Identify with David who was being chased; identify with Job who was being afflicted; tell yourself, “ I still believe.”  Disappointment opens the door to spiritual warfare ; your effort to stay focused will require mental and spiritual effort to maintain your confidence in God and in yourself, but it is your road to better things.

Thank God every day; there’s always a reason to do so. “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:2). Start thanking the Lord for all the blessings he has given you. Do this instead of mentally—and perhaps vocally—harping on what has been denied you. You’ll be amazed how much better your life will look when you saturate it with thanksgiving!

I get by with a little help BY: KB © 2.10.15

REAL TALK from KB: A while back I discussed the life lessons that cancer had taught me about being "spiritual" and what it takes to have unfailing faith. All I could do is just laugh about my feeble explanation...I fail God daily...my faith is unfailing because I KNOW...I don't run anything but my mouth!

Seriously, I KNOW that His plan for me is far greater than anything I could ever imagine for myself. I didn't talk about the spiritual aspects of my life because I was always around "church folks" then it dawned on me that we had/have a tendency to keep our struggle a secret because we were considered "church folks"......

This led me to create both my blogs. I use one to stress spiritual as well as social justice  and the second is a subscription only - daily motivational blog. We ALL need encouragement.

We walk by faith – February 10, 2015

Ephesians 4:18     They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

2Corinthians 4: 3-5  …3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus' sake.…

Jesus’ sacrifice should ask us all to be accountable. Asking us to search our souls asking this question: If He loved us to the point of ULTIMATE sacrifice; can we not love each other? Can we look past our hurts, our callousness, our selfishness, our hedonism and see the blessing He is providing?

What is preventing you from seeing the blessings of God?
